This San Jose project was one of the most unique installations we’ve completed. The client envisioned a statement island that would not only function as a surface - but glow as a centerpiece.
They wanted integrated lighting within the onyx slab, and entrusted our team to bring that vision to life.
Onyx is a rare and visually striking natural stone known for its translucency and dramatic veining. When backlit properly, it transforms into a luminous architectural feature. However, its beauty comes with complexity.
Due to its porous composition and delicate structure, onyx requires an elevated level of care during fabrication and installation. Precision is not optional - it is critical.
Because of the material’s sensitivity, fabrication extended over four days. Each cut was executed gradually and methodically to protect the structural integrity of the slab.
Special considerations included:
Reinforcement planning to support the slab
Careful edge finishing to prevent stress fractures
Integration channels for custom backlighting
Surface preparation to enhance light diffusion
Every detail was approached with patience and discipline to ensure the final product met both aesthetic and structural standards.
Installation required two full days to complete. The lighting system was carefully positioned beneath the island to evenly illuminate the natural movement within the stone.
When powered on, the onyx revealed depth, warmth, and dimension - transforming the kitchen into a refined, architectural space.
This project stands as a testament to trust, craftsmanship, and technical execution. The client presented a vision. We engineered the solution.
The finished island now serves as both functional workspace and illuminated focal point - a true statement piece within the home.
